plants toxic to cats

one important topic in cat care is to be aware of toxic plants in your cats environment. surely you can't always keep an eye on your cat, when its roaming outside in the garden. but you should try to avoid certain plants and flowers in your home like tulips, lily of the valley, daffodils or poinsettia. especially when you keep your cat entirely indoors, the risk of nibbling on plants is far greater. provide your cat with cat grass which is save to chew, and your cat might not be so desperate for your decorative greens.

household poisons

  • rodent poisons
  • antifreeze
  • alcohol
  • painkillers (e.g. aspirin, paracetamol)
  • disinfectants, household cleaners (e.g. phenols)
  • insecticides and pesticides
  • slug and snail poisons

if you suspect your cat has swallowed any of the above poisons, consult your vet immediately! they are potentially fatal!
signs of poisoning can include:

  • lack of coordination
  • severe vomiting
  • staggering or nervous signs
  • coma
  • drooling
  • diarrhoea
  • convulsions
  • bleeding
  • blue gums (paracetamol)
