zoonosis
what is zoonosis? the transmission from cat diseases to humans is called zoonosis. most illnesses, like feline aids cannot be transferred however. with common sense and sensible hygiene precautions you shouldn't be at risk. its more likely to get infected by another human rather than your pet. so don't panic!
some of the following diseases are known to have been contracted to humans by cats:
- rabies and cow pox - through biting and direct contact
- ringworm a fungus infection - direct contact and spores from the infected cat
- pasteurella and tetanus - through cat bites
- campylobacter enteritis, a disease of the small intestine - contact with contaminated cat feces
- cat scratch fever, bacterial agent -through cat scratches
- conjunctivitis, eye infection - through contact with ocular discharges infected by feline chlamydiosis
- salmonella, can cause intestinal disease - can be transferred through saliva, discharge from eyes and feces
- toxoplasmosis - through contact with feces from an infected cat (more likely for humans to catch this disease from undercooked meat)
- parasites like hookworms, fleas, round and tapeworms - through contaminated feces
